My grocery store's new scan-and-go system tracks all my purchases

I started using the scan-and-go app at my usual store to skip lines. It's fast and I don't have to carry cash. But now I see ads online for things I just bought. Makes me wonder who else can see my shopping list. Like, what if my insurance company thinks I eat too much junk? Has anyone else dealt with this? Looking for tips on keeping some spending private without going back to cash.

Got the same creepy ads after using scan-and-go. What worked for me was buying store gift cards with cash. I load one up every few weeks for groceries. Pays for stuff without linking directly to my bank account or loyalty profile. It's a hassle, but stops some tracking. Like @paulw53 mentioned, these systems know way too much.

Yeah I read that rumor about insurance companies checking shopping data, like your junk food example.

Didn't @paulw53's story prove they already guess way more than we tell them?

Target's pregnancy prediction story still creeps me out.
