Paid $12 in cash for a burrito at a truck in Austin and the card reader was down, so the cashless thing saved my lunch
I keep hearing how cash is dead, but two Fridays back I grabbed lunch at a taco truck on East 6th and their card machine was totally dead. The guy said sorry, cash only today, and about four people in line behind me just walked off because they had nothing on them. I had a $20 in my wallet and got my $12 burrito plus change, and it hit me that all this tap to pay stuff is only as good as the signal and the battery. Same week my bank texted me that my card got used for $340 at a gas station three towns over, and they froze everything while I was standing in a grocery line. So yeah, digital money is fast until it is not, and then the only person still eating is the one with paper in their pocket. If the power goes out or the system flags you, who do you call, and how fast do they actually fix it?
