PSA: My local farmer's market stopped taking cash last month
I went to buy some tomatoes and the guy just pointed to a QR code, said they only do digital payments now. It's faster for them but I had to use my phone which felt weird for veggies. Has anyone else had a small business go cashless like this?

What's next, a subscription for fresh air?

You think they haven't tried that already?

It's funny you say that because I've been noticing this creeping into everything lately. I went to buy a pair of sneakers online last week and the checkout tried to charge me an extra $5 for "sustainability packaging." Like, what was the alternative, just throwing them in a paper bag? And then my gym membership literally has a $3 monthly "equipment maintenance fee" they added without telling anyone. It feels like every company is looking for new ways to slice and dice fees out of things that used to be basic parts of the service. Pretty soon you'll need a subscription just to have the privilege of paying for things. It's exhausting keeping track of all these little charges that add up to way more than they used to cost.

I mean, I get why it feels weird, but honestly I prefer it. My local coffee shop went cashless last year and it's way faster in the morning rush. Like max223 said, they probably have a good reason, maybe dealing with cash is a real hassle for them. It just takes a second to tap your phone and you're done.
