Saw a cash only sign at a food truck in Portland and it made me think

I was grabbing lunch from a taco truck on 12th Avenue last week and they only took cash, which was a pain since I never carry it. The owner told me the card fees would eat up too much of his small profit, and he doesn't want a bank tracking every single $3 sale he makes. Does that mean going fully digital could push out the smallest businesses?

Cash is a pain for customers though, and those fees are just a cost of doing business now.

Cash isn't that bad if you have it on you, and those fees really add up for small shops. It's not just a cost of business, it's a choice to push out people who deal in cash.

Wasn't there a story a while back about some city trying to ban cash? I read that and it seemed so out of touch. Forcing everyone to use cards just helps big companies that run the payment systems. It's not just about fees, it's about letting people run their business how they want. If a taco guy wants cash so he can actually make a living, that's his call.

My wallet is basically just old receipts and a library card at this point. I tried to buy a coffee last month with a card and the guy just pointed at his "CASH ONLY" sign like I'd insulted his mother. Had to walk two blocks to an ATM. Felt like a caveman finding fire.
