Stranded at a food truck with no cash, took 40 minutes to sort it out
Last Saturday I hit up that taco truck on 7th and Main, the one everyone raves about. I ordered two al pastor and a horchata, then realized the reader was down and it was cash only. I had zero bills on me, my phone wallet app kept glitching on their backup QR code, and the ATM a block away was out of service. It took four tries, a gas station purchase I didn't want, and a Venmo transfer from a friend who happened to be nearby, all to pay a $11 tab. The whole thing stretched to 40 minutes while my tacos got cold on the counter. That moment really got me thinking about how we're all one dead chip reader away from being stuck. Anyone else hit a cash-only spot recently and had to do the whole dance?

One dead chip reader away from being stuck" hit hard. I got burned last month at a farmers market stand, same deal. No ATM for six blocks and the vendor's Square was just dead. I ended up doing a mobile check deposit to my buddy's account just so he could pull cash for me. Felt like a whole banking operation over a $9 tamale. Weird part is, the vendor was cool about it, let my tacos sit there while I ran around like a headless chicken. You're right though, the second the tech fails, the whole system falls apart.
