Vent: My power went out in Seattle and I couldn't buy a sandwich

Last week, a storm knocked out the grid in my neighborhood for about six hours. I walked to the corner deli, but their card readers were down and I had zero cash on me. I stood there hungry, realizing how helpless a cashless system makes you when the tech fails. Has anyone else been stuck like this during an outage?

Honestly that moment when you realize you're just a battery away from a sandwich is the worst. Tbh I did the same thing last winter, but I was trying to buy a single sad banana. The guy at the register just looked at me and my dead phone like I was an idiot, which, fair. Now I keep a twenty dollar bill taped inside a random book at home, which means I'll never find it in a real emergency.

Disagree completely, that cash is a perfect emergency fund. You'll only remember it exists when you're truly desperate, which is the whole point. It stops you from spending it on dumb stuff.

My emergency cash was in a sock drawer until my car battery died.
