When my phone died at a gas station, cash was my only way home.

I learned to always stash some bills in my glove box after that scare! It's a simple skill that keeps you from being stuck.

Ever run into a store that only takes cash? I had that happen at a little car wash place once... the card reader was down and I just needed air in my tires. Now I keep a five and a few ones tucked behind my registration. It really does save you from those little panics. Good habit to have.

Honestly, paying with cash makes you think about the real cost of every little thing.

What's not talked about enough is how cash keeps you ready for bigger system hiccups, not just a single machine down. If the power goes out or cell networks drop, digital payments are dead in the water. That five bucks in your glove box turns into a lifesaver for basics like water or a ride. It's a small step toward being less dependent on always-on tech. I've seen it help during local outages where stores could only take cash. Makes you appreciate the simple paper stuff when the fancy systems fail.

Cash is just dead weight most days though, @corap21.
