I finally started freezing the heels of my bread instead of tossing them, and my soup game changed
For about two years I was throwing away the end pieces of every loaf because nobody in my house will eat them. Back in January I started keeping a ziplock bag in the freezer and just dropping the heels in there whenever a loaf ran out. Last Sunday I had about 14 of them saved up, so I toasted them in the oven with some olive oil and garlic, then blended them into a pot of tomato soup as a thickener. Cost me nothing extra and the soup came out way heartier than the watery version I used to make. Anyone else have a freezer bag trick like this that actually saves real money?
