My grandma told me to stop tossing bacon grease and now my $1.50 pot of beans tastes like a $12 bowl
My grandma kept a coffee can of bacon grease on her stove for 40 years and I always thought it was gross until I tried it myself about 3 months ago. I was making a pot of pinto beans with a ham hock that cost me $3 and she said to drop a spoonful of the grease in while they simmered. I did it and those beans came out so much richer than the ones I usually make, and the whole pot fed me for 4 days. Now I save the grease every time I cook bacon and keep it in a jar in the fridge. What else am I sleeping on that old folks do that I think is weird?
