The beans and rice math from my coworker in Des Moines blew my mind
My coworker Denise brought beans and rice to work every day for a month straight and I finally asked her about it. She said a 4 pound bag of dried pinto beans costs about $3.50 at the store on 6th Ave and makes roughly 20 servings once cooked. She adds a $1 bag of rice and some onion and that covers her lunches for almost two weeks. I did the math on my own $9 a day sandwich habit and felt sick. Does anyone else have a staple meal where the cost per serving surprised you like that?
