Can we talk about changing my mind on kitchen noise? I used to need total silence.

For years, I cooked best when it was quiet and I could focus alone. Then I took a job in a busy, loud kitchen where everyone talked and music played. At first, it drove me nuts, but after a few weeks, I started feeling more connected to the crew. The energy actually helped me stay sharp during long shifts. Now I miss that buzz when I work somewhere too quiet.

That buzz becoming part of your focus is a real thing.

Ever tried just focusing on your breath?

Wait, how do you handle that?

Start by naming the distraction out loud. Say "air conditioner" or "lawnmower" quietly to yourself. Then pick one part of the sound to follow, like the hum's rise and fall. Let that rhythm anchor you instead of fighting it. I've found the noise just becomes background static after a few minutes.
