Can we talk about the push for 'clean' plates at fine dining spots?

A regular at my old place in Chicago told me my plating was 'too busy' and it made the food look cold... I switched to simpler white plates with more space and got way more compliments. Do you think a minimalist plate actually makes the food taste better to people?

Ugh, that "too busy" comment would have driven me nuts. It's wild how much plate psychology matters, though. People really do eat with their eyes first, and a cluttered plate can make even hot food seem unappealing. Your switch proves it wasn't about the food's quality, just its presentation. A clean plate lets the food be the star without any visual noise.

Remember those old diner plates with the crazy patterns? Did the food taste worse because the plate was loud?

Honestly those loud plates gave the food more character, nancyjones, unlike boring modern ones.
