Fancy finger guillotine" is too real. My expensive one came with a guard so flimsy it was basically a suggestion.

Seriously, what is it with those guards? My last one had a plastic piece that snapped off the second week. It just dangled there, clicking against the blade every time I used it. Did yours at least have a metal hinge, or was it just glued on?

Honestly, kaigibson is right about it being a suggestion. Tbh mine was that cheap glued-on plastic kind too. Felt like it was made to break just after the return window closed. That clicking sound would drive anyone crazy. They really need to stop making these things out of wishful thinking and brittle plastic.

Ugh, tell me about it. I actually had a mandoline that came with a guard so flimsy it felt like it was made from a takeout container lid. The plastic edge was way too soft to actually grip the food, so it just slid right off the veggie every time. I ended up just using a fork to hold things in place, which is probably not any safer honestly. Did your expensive one at least have a decent handle on the guard?
