Spent 4 hours trying to fix a broken mandoline - it was just the blade lock pin

Last Saturday I was prepping for a big catering order and my mandoline just stopped slicing clean. I spent 4 whole hours taking it apart, cleaning it, testing different veggies, even swapping out the blade. I was about to drive 30 miles to buy a new one. Turns out the little plastic lock pin that holds the blade carriage in place was just slightly loose. I pushed it back in with my thumb and it worked perfect again. Felt like a real dummy standing there in my kitchen. Has anyone else fought with a simple tool for way too long before figuring out the obvious fix?

That's always how it goes. You tear the whole thing apart looking for some big mechanical failure and it ends up being a tiny piece of plastic that just needed a push.

OMG YES. I spent an HOUR fighting with my garlic press once. Clogged solid, took it completely apart with a screwdriver, washed every single piece in the sink. Turned out the little rubber grip ring just needed to be rotated a quarter turn. Felt SO dumb standing there with the thing in pieces. It's ALWAYS the dumbest little thing.
