TIL my kitchen scale turns off at the worst possible moments

I was in the middle of a crazy lunch rush trying to batch out cookie dough. The scale has this auto-shutoff thing if you don't touch it for a minute. I was weighing butter, looked away to grab vanilla, and the screen went blank. Had to dump everything and start over, twice. Same thing happened with the sugar for the frosting later. It turned a simple task into a total circus. I've started just leaving a spoon on it to trick the sensor, works like a charm.

Wait, you had to dump everything and start over twice? That's next-level bad. A kitchen scale should be the one thing you can trust not to ruin your workflow. The fact you need to leave a spoon on it just to do a normal task proves the auto-shutoff is completely broken.

Our stupid apartment's motion sensor lights do the exact same thing. It feels like half the gadgets I own now are in a hurry to go to sleep the second I look away. My phone screen dims after ten seconds while I'm reading a recipe, and our TV turns off if you pause a show for too long. Honestly, it seems like product designers never actually use this stuff while their hands are covered in flour or butter. You end up fighting your own tools, and that spoon trick is the kind of hack we all have to learn now.

Actually, my phone's recipe app keeps the screen on.

My car's Bluetooth disconnects if I breathe wrong.
