Can we talk about the switch from wire brushes to poly bristle rods?

I used wire brushes for YEARS on every job, thinking they were the only real option. Then I picked up a poly bristle rod from a supply house in Columbus about 2 months ago and it completely changed how I handle creosote buildup. It flexes way better around offsets and I don't have to worry about scratching stainless liners. Has anyone else made that change or am I late to the party?

yeah but how bad was the creosote buildup on those first few poly rod jobs compared to wire? i switched over maybe 6 months ago and the first chimney i used it on had this thick tar like layer i thought the bristles would just slide through but they got gummed up pretty quick. had to stop and clean the rod off mid job. you run into that at all or was yours cleaner?

Nah man I gotta disagree a little bit. I've been using poly rods for close to a year now and yeah the first few jobs had some sticky creosote but nothing like what you're describing. I think it depends on the type of chimney you're cleaning. If it's a really old one with years of wet wood burning the stuff is almost like asphalt and nothing really glides through that easy. But on seasonal buildup where it's more flaky than sticky the poly rods actually snap through way nicer than wire for me. What kind of brush head you using? I found the square wire ones catch more gunk than the round plastic ones.

Man those first couple jobs with poly rods were rough for me too until I switched to a round bristle head.
