I finally switched from steel brushes to poly ones and wow what a difference

For 8 years I swore by steel chimney brushes, thought the poly ones were just a gimmick. Last month I had a job on a really tight flue up in Westchester and the steel brush kept getting stuck. Grabbed a poly brush from my truck out of desperation and it slid right through. Cleaned just as well too, maybe even better on the soot. Anybody else made the switch and noticed less wear on their rods?

Oh man the squeaking thing is so real, I used to think it was just part of the job but now I realize I was basically sanding down my liners for years. Did you find your rods last any longer after switching too?

8 years with steel brushes? Honestly that is wild to me, I've been using poly for maybe 2 years now and can't imagine going back. Ngl I thought steel was the only real option for heavy creosote, but now I'm wondering how much damage I might've done to my old flues.

You ever notice how much less your rods squeak with the poly brushes? That was the first thing I picked up on after switching a few years back. The steel ones always had that grinding sound that made me cringe, especially on older clay liners. Poly just glides through and I swear it takes half the elbow grease to get the job done. Plus I stopped finding little metal bristles in my soot pile after cleaning, which always bugged me.
