PSA: My simple method for a clean first pass on brick liners

After tweaking my approach for months, it clicked during a routine job. Finishing without a second sweep felt like real progress.

Sometimes a second pass might still help.

But what if that second look just makes things worse? I've ruined good work by overthinking it and adding stuff that didn't need to be there. Sometimes you just kill the original feeling or create new problems when you try to fix what wasn't broken.

Heard a podcast about this exact thing. The host said to set a timer when you review your work so you don't overdo it. @lane.wendy is right that a second pass can help, but only if you're careful. Like in painting, adding one more brushstroke can mess up the whole piece. I've done that with code, fixing bugs that weren't there. How do you know when to stop tweaking?

Stop blaming the second look for your mistakes. The real problem is how you use that time. Adding random things because you're overthinking isn't review, it's messing up. A proper second look should have a purpose, like finding mistakes or tightening parts. Set rules for yourself before you start again. This keeps the original feeling safe while still improving the work.
