Steel rotary vs. plastic brush on heavy creosote, I switched back
Been sweeping chimneys for about 11 years now, mostly around the Pittsburgh area. I kept hearing everyone rave about the plastic whips for that nasty stage 3 creosote, so I tried one on a job last week over in Oakmont. It just bounced off the buildup, left sooty streaks everywhere, and I had to go back with my old steel rotary head anyway. Took me an extra 40 minutes that I didn't charge for. Has anyone else found the plastic brushes useless on anything past light flaking, or am I missing something with the technique?

Quit fighting the brush and just buy a stainless steel rod, plastic whips are for Pinterest boards, not Pittsburgh creosote.
