That talk with a roofer in Akron shifted how I work
Last Thursday I was on a job and the roofer asked why I always pull the crown off before checking the flue. He said he sees sweeps who skip that step and then come back three weeks later for the same crack. Do you guys take the crown off every time or only when you spot damage from below?

Learned this the hard way after a callback where the crown looked fine from below but had a hairline crack hiding up top. Now I pop it off every time unless I'm just doing a quick estimate, costs me five extra minutes and saves me a whole redo. That roofer basically saved my ass with that tip.
