Three years of knocking on doors in Cedar Rapids finally paid off with one phone call
Three years ago I moved to Cedar Rapids with a ladder, a shop vac, and about $200 to my name. I spent that first winter knocking on doors in the older neighborhoods off Mount Vernon Road, and let me tell you, most folks just waved me off or asked if I was selling something. I kept at it though, dropping cards in mailboxes every fall before heating season. Last Tuesday I got a call from a property manager who owns six older duplexes near Czech Village. He said a landlord friend of his passed my name along after I cleaned his flues back in October. I did two of the units Thursday and he already wants me on a yearly schedule for all six. That is 12 flues a year locked in, which is more steady work than I have ever had.
