Blew $1,800 on a moving pod from Austin to Chicago and it sat in a lot for 3 weeks
I moved from Austin to Chicago last spring for a job and thought a portable moving pod would be cheaper than a full service mover. I paid $1,800 for the pod plus another $400 in fees I did not know about, like a long carry charge because the truck could not get close to my building. The pod showed up 3 weeks late, and by then I had been sleeping on an air mattress in an empty apartment and eating takeout every night. When it finally arrived, half my kitchen stuff was cracked and my desk had a big gouge in the side. The company offered me $150 back, which barely covers a new desk. Has anyone else used a pod for a long distance move and had it go this bad, or did I just pick the wrong company?
