Had to pick between a flip phone and a smartphone for a month long experiment
So last month I decided to try going without a smartphone for 30 days. I pulled out my old Motorola Razr from 2007 that still somehow works on T-Mobile. I charged it up and used it for calls and texts only. No maps, no camera, no internet. The first week was ROUGH because I kept reaching for apps that just weren't there. But around week two I noticed I was actually paying attention to stuff around me more. I missed having directions when I got lost near downtown though. Ended up buying a paper map from a gas station which felt like being in a movie. The phone battery lasted 6 days between charges which was crazy compared to my iPhone dying every night. Has anyone else tried going full basic like this and actually stuck with it?

Wait, 6 days on a single charge? That is wild. My iPhone barely makes it through a day without needing a top-up around 3 PM. Did you find yourself actually talking on the phone more, or did you just text people like normal? I keep wondering if the lack of a camera would mess with me the most, or if it would be the directions thing like you mentioned. It sounds like you enjoyed the paper map part of it though, is that helping you actually remember the streets better now?

Left my flip phone off for two days straight and forgot it existed until I needed to call someone.
