Had to pick between two portable cassette players last week
I found a working Sony Walkman WM-52 at a thrift store for $15, but it needed new belts. Right next to it was a Panasonic RQ-A200 for $25 that played fine. I went with the Sony because I like the metal body and the sound quality is better once it's fixed. Spent about $8 on belt replacements from a shop on eBay and it took maybe 45 minutes to install. Now I'm running through my old mix tapes again and the sound is just warm in a way digital never matches. Has anyone else had luck swapping belts on these old units or should I have just grabbed the Panasonic?

Wait, you found a WM-52 for FIFTEEN bucks? That's insane, I've been hunting for one of those for months and people are asking like $80 for beat up ones on eBay. You totally made the right call, the Panasonic is fine but that Sony with the metal body is a whole different level of build quality.

Haven't you ever bought something just because it looks cool, only to realize the plastic Panasonic sounds exactly the same and you just wasted your money?
