My old Nokia brick phone could survive a drop from orbit, my new smartphone can't handle a 3 foot fall onto carpet

I dropped my modern phone off the couch yesterday and now the screen has a rainbow crack across half of it. My 15 year old Nokia 3310 survived being thrown down a flight of stairs in high school and still worked fine. Why can't they make phones that actually last anymore?

Honestly just get a thick case and screen protector, saves me all the time!

Yeah that really works, I've dropped mine down stairs and it still looks brand new.

My old phone survived a 4 foot drop onto concrete because I had one of those rubber OtterBox cases. I think the bounce actually saved it more than the hard shell would have. Plus a glass screen protector that cracked instead of my screen. That combo has been my go to for years now.
