I used to roll my eyes at compost bins in the city

My apartment building has one of those community compost bins in the back and I thought it was just gonna be maggots and smell. But my neighbor told me last month she cut her trash output down to one bag every two weeks. That got me curious so I looked up my city's stats - Denver sent 40,000 tons of food waste to the landfill in 2023 alone. So I started dropping my coffee grounds and veggie scraps in there just to try it. Three weeks in no smell no bugs and my trash can is half as full. Has anyone else had a similar experience with a building compost program?

Same things happening with clothes donations near me - people just realizing how much they actually throw out.

Ended up putting an old dresser in my garage just for clothes that need to go out. Turns out having a visible spot for them makes it way harder to ignore than just shoving stuff in a trash bag. Donating at the end of each month keeps the pile from turning into a mountain.

Oh yeah, I put my old clothes in my trunk and now I donate a full bag every month.
