Hold on before you jump in. That 30% rebate he got is probably a one-time thing through Austin Energy, not a guarantee for everyone everywhere. I looked into it myself last year and the city caps it at like $2,500, so if his system cost more than that, the actual savings math changes fast. Plus that $40 bill usually skips the fact they still charge you a connection fee around $15-20 no matter what. Just saying, check your own utility's fine print before you treat his numbers as the baseline.
