My neighbor says switching to a heat pump saved him $40 a month in Vermont, but my cousin in Alabama says the same swap cost him more
Last week my neighbor in Burlington showed me his electric bill from January, and it was $38 lower than the year before after he swapped his old furnace for a heat pump, but my cousin in Birmingham ran the same math and his bill went up $22 a month because his house leaks air like a sieve. I keep seeing people online act like heat pumps are a magic fix for everyone, and I get why that bugs folks who tried it in a drafty old place and got burned. So which is it, is the tech the problem or is it the house, and how do we tell people which one they actually need?
