My rain barrel setup failed after one big storm

My rain barrel setup failed after one big storm. I built it last spring to water my garden, but last Tuesday that big downpour blew the whole thing apart. The connector pipe just snapped right off the spigot... has anyone else had trouble with those cheap plastic fittings?

Was the connector pipe threaded or just glued on?

Both glued and threaded in my setup. Threaded on the bottom connection to the pump, glued on the top vent section. Did your system have that little rubber gasket at the threaded joint or was it dry fit?

Wait, did yours have that little rubber gasket at the threaded part or was it just dry fit? I've seen both ways and honestly the gasket seems to make more sense for keeping leaks away from the pump area.
