Spent $200 on a smart thermostat and my heating bill went up
I got a Nest thermostat last winter because everyone said it would save money. Installed it myself, set up the schedule, felt very clever for about a week. Then my January bill came in at $180, which was $40 more than the same month the year before. Turns out I had it set to 'eco mode' wrong and it was running the furnace more often instead of less. Has anyone else had a smart home gadget backfire on them like this?

My smart lights turned on by themselves at 3am and woke up the whole house once.

Same thing happened to me with a Google Nest speaker blasting metal at 2am. Factory reset that thing after the second time it did it. Hope you got yours sorted out without too much trouble.

Factory reset is definitely the quick fix that works. Had to do the same thing with my Echo when it started playing kids' songs at random hours. Unplugging it for a full minute before resetting can help clear any stale cache data that might be causing the glitch.
