Spent $600 on a heat pump water heater a year ago my electric bill dropped like a rock

My old water heater died back in March and I figured I'd try one of those hybrid heat pump units instead of just swapping in another gas model. Cost me about $600 more than a standard one after the local rebate but my monthly electric bill went from around $140 down to $85 in the summer months. It takes a little longer to recover when the kids take back to back showers but the basement stays cooler now too. Anyone else made the switch and seen real savings or did I just get lucky with my setup?

Actually those heat pump water heaters work way better in warmer climates since they pull heat from the air around them. If your basement stays above 50 degrees you'll see decent savings but folks up north with cold basements sometimes struggle with efficiency. Hybrid mode is definitely the way to go so it can switch to electric resistance when the heat pump can't keep up.

Exactly. My basement sits at 48 and my heat pump water heater struggles hard in winter.
