Used to crank the AC all summer, now I sweat it out with a $30 box fan
Two summers ago my electric bill hit $210 in July here in Raleigh. That was the wakeup call. I used to keep the thermostat at 68 no matter what, curtains closed, windows sealed. Now I run the box fan by the bedroom window at night, close the blinds on the sunny side by 10am, and only turn on the AC when it gets above 88 inside. My bill last month was $84. The change wasn't about saving the planet at first, honestly it was about money. But now I actually notice how much less energy I'm wasting and it feels weirdly good. Anyone else made the switch and found their tolerance for heat just went up over time?
