I was checking every part with calipers for 6 months before I figured out why my scrap rate was 8%
I run a Haas ST-20 at a job shop in Akron and I was measuring every single part off the machine, pulling them out to check OD with calipers, and still getting about 8 scrap parts per 100 on a run of 4140 steel bushings. My lead guy watched me for 5 minutes and asked why I was pulling the part out to measure when the tool was still spinning down, and I realized the part was still hot and shrinking as it cooled, so my measurements were garbage. Does anyone else measure in the cut or do you all wait for the part to cool first?
