Old timer at a garage sale told me to cheat with G-code offsets

This guy named Frank was selling old end mills and said he never uses tool comp for finishing passes, just shifts the offset by .002 and runs it twice. I tried it on a job last week in Toledo and my surface finish went from decent to glass smooth. Has anyone else tried skipping tool wear comps and just tweaking offsets instead?

Frank always told me the same thing and I figured he was full of it until I tried it myself.

My buddy Mark swore it was a gimmick too until his wife made him try it and now he won't shut up about it.
