Old timer's setup comment made me redo my whole workflow

Foreman at the shop in Dayton was watching me dial in a part. He said 'you're fighting the machine instead of letting it run.' Meant my zero points and speeds were all over. Spent yesterday rebuilding my tool library offsets from scratch. Runs smoother now, but I want to know if anyone else setups parts the same way every single time or just wings it per job.
