Pro tip: people keep crashing because they ignore tool offset checking
I was running a job last week on a Haas VF-2, aluminum plate 6061, and watched a guy swap a 1/2 endmill but forget to verify his tool offset in the control. He hit cycle start and plowed a 3 inch groove through the part and the fixture. it cost him 4 hours of setup time and a $200 fixture plate. how do you guys handle tool offset verification on a new setup, do you use a presetter or just the manual method?

@daniel_gonzalez makes a good point, and I'll add that checking the offset before the first cut with a quick Z zero return is even simpler.

The real trick is to program a G30 or G28 move before the first cut so it rapids to a safe height first. If that offset is wrong, you see it when it overshoots or stalls instead of burying the tool.

Actually four years running a production shop and I'd argue this habit can cause more crashes than it prevents. I've seen guys get complacent with the G30 safety move and then forget to actually check the offset before hitting cycle start, leading to a rapid into a vise jaw or fixture. Running the tool straight into the part at a slow feed with the door cracked gives you way more feedback than that fake safety net.
