PSA: My shop's new coolant filter clogged after just 80 hours on a 316 stainless run

The maintenance guy said it was because we skipped the recommended pre-filter for fines. Has anyone else run into this with high-nickel alloys?

That pre-filter advice is no joke. The fine chips from those alloys act like abrasive paste, they'll wreck a main filter fast.

Sounds like a bad filter, not the chips.

Honestly, that line about fine chips being like abrasive paste is so true. Tbh I see this everywhere, people skipping a small step because it seems like extra work, then it causes a way bigger problem later. It's like not changing your car's oil on time to save a few minutes, and then the whole engine goes. Those little fines will always find a way to mess things up if you don't catch them first.
