Rant: Hit 10,000 parts on my Haas and nobody warned me about the spindle
I ran my VF-2 for like 4 years straight, never thought about the spindle bearings much. Last week the machine just started screaming at 8,000 RPM and I realized I crossed 10,000 parts without ever doing a maintenance check on it. Now I'm down for a week waiting on a rebuild kit. Has anyone else had their spindle give out way earlier than you expected?

Used to think spindles were basically indestructible on those machines. Ran my VF-3 for years swapping parts out, never touched the bearings. Then one day it started howling at 7k rpm, lost a whole week of work waiting on parts. Changed my tune real fast. Now I replace the belt and check the bearings every 3,000 parts no matter what.

Been there with a Haas mini mill, thinking the exact same way. That high pitch scream at 8k told me everything I needed to know. Now I keep a spare spindle cartridge on the shelf and swap it out every 2,000 hours regardless of how it sounds. Way cheaper than losing production time.

Cars and houses are the same way. Everyone thinks they're built to last forever until something big breaks and suddenly you're out a week and a pile of money.
