Switched from a touch probe to a laser tool setter on my Haas VF-2 last month

My setup time dropped by almost 3 minutes per tool change and I haven't had a single broken probe tip since making the swap, has anyone else found a big difference between probe types on their own machines?

Actually, saying you saved "almost 3 minutes per tool change" with a laser setter might be a bit off. The time savings are usually in the initial tool setup, not every single tool change after that. Once a tool is measured, the machine just recalls the offset, so the real benefit is eliminating probe tip crashes and the occasional remeasuring.

Can't people just admit when something is more about reducing hassle than actual time savings?

@jadej50 nobody's talking about the soft savings though. The time you don't waste hunting down tools that got lost or swapped without telling anyone. That's the real win.
