Switched from coolant mist to flood coolant on my Haas last month
For about 3 years I ran everything with just a mist system cause I thought flood coolant was too messy. Then I did a batch of 416 stainless parts and had to stop every 15 minutes to clear chips and re-oil. Finally hooked up the flood coolant pump on a Tuesday and now I get 2 hours straight without touching the machine. Who else fought the switch to flood coolant for way too long?

Haven't you ever noticed how much more downtime you get from flood coolant? I ran flood for years and switched back to mist last spring, best thing I ever did. Sure, chips pile up faster with mist, but you don't have to babysit a sump pump or deal with that slimy film on everything. Flood coolant makes a nasty mess of your floor and you're constantly cleaning the machine. Plus, that fine mist actually gets into tight spots better than a flood stream. To me, the extra chip clearing is worth not having to drain and refill coolant every month.

@lily_torres31 Yeah, you're making me feel like a real knucklehead over here (which, honestly, isn't that hard to do). I've been running flood on my mill for like three years now and I'm constantly fighting that gross slime you're talking about. My floor looks like a rink from all the drips, and I swear my shop vac is about to unionize from overtime. Maybe I need to swallow my pride and give mist another shot, even if it means I have to sweep up chips more often.
