My sister said learning to code is like learning to read a map, not just follow GPS directions.

We were talking about her kid's school adding a basic Python class, and she argued it teaches a way to think, not just a skill. Has that idea changed how you approach your first projects?

My first website was just that map.

Ha, yeah that's kind of the beauty of it when you think about it. It's like how people still drive the same roads every day just to see what's different. Sometimes the simplest stuff sticks because it's a window into something bigger you aren't seeing otherwise. That map was probably just a gateway to figuring out how the whole web actually worked, not even about the map itself.

Wait, your first website was just a map? That's wild. I can't even picture what that looked like. Did it just load up with a single map of your town or something? What did people even do on there, just stare at it? That's so simple it's kind of amazing.

My first ten projects were just GPS. JamieB80's post made me see the map.
