Found a coffee shop in Portland that does pour-overs with a stopwatch
Last week I was in Portland and walked into a small shop called The Daily Grind. The barista there timed each pour-over step with a stopwatch, saying it was for a 'consistent 3 minute 30 second brew'. I had never seen that before. My usual cup at home is just guesswork. The coffee tasted really clean and bright, way better than mine. Has anyone else tried timing their pour-over like a science project?

Totally! I tried timing mine once and it was a game changer, way less bitter.

Honestly that sounds like way too much work for a cup of coffee. I get wanting it to taste good, but timing it with a stopwatch feels like you're in a lab, not a kitchen. My best cups happen when I'm just relaxed and paying attention, not staring at a clock. Doesn't all that pressure take the fun out of it?

Yeah the "lab not a kitchen" thing is real. But sometimes you just want to know why one cup was bitter and the next was sour, you know? The timer is just a tool to figure that out, not a rule you have to follow every single time.
