Had a barista at a shop in Austin call me out for ordering a cortado with oat milk

She said I was missing the whole point of the drink and now I can't stop thinking about whether I've been ruining my coffee just for the sake of being extra.

Figured I'd give the barista a real puzzle and order a cortado with oat milk and a splash of soy. But seriously, I've been that guy too. I used to order a latte with almond milk and extra foam and act like I was being fancy. Turns out I was just inventing a new drink called "A Mess." Now I'm too scared to order anything other than black coffee unless I'm wearing a disguise.

My buddy once ordered a "dirty chai with oat milk and no foam, extra hot but not too hot." The barista just stared at him for a good five seconds before saying "so you want a warm cup of disappointment?" It was pretty funny but also true. Now he just gets whatever's on the menu board and calls it a day.
