Heard a guy at a diner in Austin say drip coffee is for people who hate themselves
I was sitting two stools down from this guy last Tuesday at a diner off South Congress and he says that out loud to his friend, real smug, while he waited 9 minutes for a pour over. Here is my thing, drip coffee made right is not a punishment and anyone who says that has never had a bad pour over. I have had pour overs that tasted like hot water with a sad lemon in it, and I have had diner drip that tasted like actual coffee should. The method is not the point, the beans and the grind and the water temp are the point, and if you mess those up it does not matter how slow you pour. Anyone else get tired of people acting like the brewer is the whole personality? What is the best plain drip cup you have had and where.
Drip coffee is not that serious, my guy. Some guy being smug at a diner about his 9 minute pour over is not a crisis, it's just a guy with too much time and a need to feel special. The beans and grind do way more work than the pour, you already said it. I have had a $3 cup at a random gas station in west Texas that beat a fancy pour over I paid $7 for, and I did not need to write a post about either one. Let the guy enjoy his slow coffee and let the diner crowd enjoy theirs.
