Hit 1,000 pourovers at my home setup last week and it caught me off guard

I started tracking how many cups I made at my little coffee station back in 2021, mostly out of curiosity. Last week I hit 1,000 and I honestly had to double check my notebook. I use a basic Hario V60 and a cheap gooseneck kettle from Amazon, nothing fancy. But seeing that number made me realize how much I've dialed in my technique over time. My first 50 cups were all over the place, bitter or sour, no consistency. Now I can nail a 3 minute brew time almost every time with my go to Ethiopian beans. It's wild how a simple daily habit adds up to something measurable. Has anyone else tracked how many cups they've made at home?

That 3 minute brew time you mentioned, man, that's the holy grail right there. I've been doing this for maybe half as many cups as you, around 500 or so, and I still can't get it consistent with different beans. But here's what I'm really curious about - when you look at your notebook from cup 1 to cup 1000, how many bags of beans did you go through, and did you find a specific roast date that worked best for you? I swear I waste at least one bag every couple months trying to dial in a new batch from a different roaster.

Man that waste really stings, I feel you on that. I probably blew through around 40 bags before I hit 1000 cups, some of those were total duds for sure. For me, beans roasted 7-14 days out always turned out the most forgiving and consistent, anything fresher than that was just chaos lol.

Whoa wait, 40 bags? That's like... that's actually insane to hear out loud. I thought I was bad when I trashed maybe 15 before I figured out what I was doing. You're a trooper for sticking with it that long cause I would have quit after bag 20 and just gone back to buying whatever was on the shelf at the grocery store. And yeah, the 7-14 day window is spot on, anything under a week is basically Russian roulette with your morning coffee.
