I thought the local roaster's $22 bag was just hype until I did a blind test
For about 6 months I stuck to a $9 supermarket bag and rolled my eyes at the shop down the street charging $22 for a 12 oz bag. Then a friend set up a blind taste test with three unmarked cups, and I picked the local one twice out of three tries before I even knew which was which. Now I'm torn: is that worth paying more than double each week, or was I just fooled by the setup? Curious how other folks here decide where the price stops making sense.
Did your friend tell you which cup was which before you picked, or was it truly blind? Because that changes everything. A buddy of mine did the same thing with coffee and swore the fancy bag won, then found out later his wife had mixed up the cups and he'd actually picked the cheap one both times. He was so sure too. The thing is, taste tests mess with your head when someone else is running them. I'd say do it again at home with bags swapped by someone who won't tell you, and if you still land on the $22 one, then yeah, it's real. Until then I wouldn't trust one night of sipping.
