My old French press finally gave out last Tuesday

The glass carafe just cracked while I was pouring hot water, which was a real bummer. I've had that thing since college, back when a French press felt like the height of fancy coffee. Anyone have a good replacement they love, or should I just get the same basic one again?

Aw man, that's the worst! I had a travel mug shatter in my hand once, hot coffee everywhere. It's such a gut punch when something you've used forever just gives up. You get attached to the routine of it. Honestly makes me want to go check my own press for cracks now lol.

See, I actually don't get attached to coffee gear like that. I had a French press crack on me a few years ago and I just shrugged and tossed it. To me, the ritual is about the coffee itself, not the stuff you make it in. A cheap plastic pour over cone does the same job as a fancy ceramic one, and honestly my coffee tastes just as good. I'd rather put that money into better beans than a fancier gadget that might break tomorrow. What makes the routine stick for you, the process or the gear you use?

That "height of fancy coffee" feeling in college is so real. I remember using my first French press in a dorm room and feeling like a total grown up, even though the coffee was probably terrible. It's funny how those little rituals stick with you. Makes you wonder what else we do just because it feels like the right way to do things.

My college roommate's pour-over setup felt like a full science lab back then.
