Overheard a barista say she uses a scale for every single shot

I was at a coffee shop in Portland last week waiting for my order and the barista told a new hire she weighs every dose even when it's busy. Made me think about how lazy I get at home just eyeballing it with my grinder. I started weighing my beans for the last 6 mornings and my cups are way more consistent now. Not sure why I fought it for so long since a scale is like 15 bucks. Anyone else have a simple habit that improved your coffee a ton?

Weighing beans is fine but you're supposed to weigh the shot output too.

Laughs in constantly eyeballing it and hoping for the best. Pretty sure my scale gets more use judging if I've had enough coffee yet.

Oh man you're totally right actually. I used to just weigh the beans and hope for the best with the output, but after a few too many sour shots I finally tried measuring the liquid too. It's a game changer, the consistency is night and day once you dial in both sides.
