The great coffee pot standoff at the teacher's lounge

Yesterday morning, I was faced with a choice between the ancient, stained Mr. Coffee that brews like tar, and the brand new, shiny Keurig that a parent donated, which I've never trusted. I went with the old pot for tradition's sake, and it immediately sputtered and died, leaving me with a carafe of hot water and a room full of disappointed 7th grade teachers. Has anyone else ever been betrayed by a seemingly reliable machine?

Betrayed by a coffee pot? Really?

Honestly, I just gave up and started bringing my own thermos from home. The lounge coffee is a gamble I'm not willing to take anymore. My old electric kettle and a jar of instant at my desk got me through last semester when the drip machine gave out for a week. It's not great, but at least it's a sure thing.

Old tech always quits when you need it most.

Read an article about planned obsolescence. They design stuff to break. Printers with chips that stop working after a set number of pages. Phones that slow down after updates. My mom's washing machine died right after the warranty ended. It's not just old tech failing, it's built that way. Makes you buy new.
