Seasoning just masks the problem, my friend's grinder still pulls sour shots after six months.

Yeah that "masks the problem" line hits hard lol. Six months of sour shots is brutal, your friend must be so frustrated. I went through something similar and it turned out my grinder's burrs were just cheap and worn down. Maybe they should check that?
